Overview on Skill Matrix
Have you ever thought, how to measure skills across organizations between different people and different tasks? No? So here comes the role of Skill Matrix. Skill matrix is a visual management tool that helps you analyze the skills of people across the organizations with different tasks. In business terms it can be defined as a visual depiction of inventory of skills which an individual possesses in order to succeed in completion of a job.It clearly shows the skills of individual in a team and any gaps between the skills of employees and the job roles they have. It gives a real idea about the training needs of employees and recruitment of the job. This indeed helps in enhancing people capability so as to achieve a higher level of performance and people participation.It is also known as Competency matrix and Talent Matrix.
While implementing Skill Matrix following there are many challenges we could face such as, There is no common skill matrix system that exists in the whole market, so it depends from industry to industry. Skill measurements are at macro level, it may be really difficult to follow them on Micro level due to different roles and responsibilities.Measurement and certification at each level is essential, but may not exist.
